Personal Project Call Out

by Lisa | Oct 28, 2011 | book shop, couple. london photographer, creative portrait photography, portraits, san francisco

When we started planning our honeymoon in San Francisco, I knew we had to make a stop at City Light Books. Steeped in history and home to some of my favourite authors, I knew this was going to be a special place.  To say I was excited, is an understatement and...

HAC Bow Wedding There’s something about early eve HAC Bow Wedding
There’s something about early evening sunshine in the summer that feels impossibly romantic—softer light, slower moments, and the air finally cooling after a warm day. Everyone settles into the celebration a little more, champagne glasses stay full, music drifts through the garden, and the golden light wraps around everything so beautifully.
Summer weddings have this effortless energy to them—a little playful, a little undone in the best way. Wind in your hair, laughter that carries across the table, and sunglasses passed around between portraits and cocktail hour like the perfect finishing touch.
My gentle reminder for every summer couple: embrace the sunshine, plan time to step into that early evening glow, and always, always bring the sunglasses.
They’re practical, yes—but they also somehow become part of the feeling of the day.
Some moments arrive so softly, yet change everythi Some moments arrive so softly, yet change everything all at once.
A blur of colourful confetti, happy tears, tangled hands, sunlight on skin, and the kind of joy you feel long after the day is over.
The doors open, the city stands still for a second, and suddenly, laughter echoes through the streets. Confetti catches in the wind, hands reach out to celebrate, and two people were completely wrapped up in the magic of finally becoming husband and wife.
The beautiful thing about wedding days is that the little moments always become the big ones.
The squeeze of a hand
The way they looked at each other through the chaos
The confetti caught in her hair.
Everyone smiling at once.
Nothing perfect, just everything real.
Just love in its fullest form.
Wild, joyful, unforgettable love.

Town Hall Hotel Wedding Sometimes the most meanin Town Hall Hotel Wedding
Sometimes the most meaningful part of the morning is the quiet in between it all.
After the first look, Emma slipped back upstairs for a moment alone—away from the movement and anticipation downstairs, away from the timeline for just a little while. She stood by the window of her room, watching as the wedding bus slowly pulled in and guests began gathering outside, chatting softly, finding their seats, and embarking on the journey to the ceremony she had spent so long dreaming about.
From above, everything felt calm. Almost still. It was the kind of moment that can so easily pass unnoticed, but somehow becomes one of the memories that stays with you long after the day is over.
There was no rush to fill the silence. No need to perform the excitement. Just Emma, standing quietly at the window in the soft morning light, letting herself witness it all unfolding before stepping into the next part of the day.
I think there’s something so beautiful about leaving space for moments like this on a wedding day. A chance to stop for a breath. To look around. To notice the people arriving, the atmosphere shifting, the feeling of everything beginning.
Because the day moves quickly afterwards. But for a few minutes, time stood still.

The Hold Steady Weekender Rehearsals Sometimes yo The Hold Steady Weekender Rehearsals
Sometimes you get a moment where you have to pinch yourself. A moment where you realize that dream you had as a 17 year old kid with a film camera somehow came true.
To be invited into such a personal space. The quiet moments before the noise, the rituals, the rehearsals, the conversations in between, and trusted to document it all felt incredibly special.
Even more so when it’s a band that soundtracked huge parts of your life. The songs you drove to at night, the songs that played while you were falling in love, figuring yourself out, becoming who you are.
Still feels a little impossible.
Still feels like magic.
