I love watching parents at weddings.  There is so much history and back story when it comes to families and it’s lovely to watch the relationships unfold on the day. Most of the time it’s pretty easy to spot the ones that will cry and I love capturing those moments as sometimes the couple won’t always see that during the ceremony.

Ceremonies are always emotional, I know I have cried at every wedding, and Aleem & Sam’s wedding was no exception. During the ceremony, while I am always focused on the couple and the little moments between them, I always take a look at the guests, looking for reactions. During the vows, I looked round to see this moment. Aleem’s mum, centre of the family, holding back tears, holding the hands of the best man and husband. Aleem’s dad, holding his wife’s hand, wiping away tears, Aleem’s sisters trying to catch their breaths and hold back the tears.  In this one photo, I saw all the love and all the support. A family brought together. A family there to cheer on Aleem & Sam, support them in any way possible. 

In this moment no words were needed. The tears, the little touches, the holding of hands say it all.

So here is part two of my best of 2016 wedding photography. I decided to split my round up into two. I tried so hard to get the selection under 100 photos but I just couldn’t do it and then I was worried there might be too many photos, too many images for you to look through in one sitting, so two parts seemed to make sense.

2016 pushed me creatively.  There are no epic wedding portraits, this is all about the relationships, the connections, the moments and the stories that turn a couples wedding day into a much bigger story.  This year saw me dance with Ali & Andy until the end of the night. I braved the cold and the fog to get one last shot of Gemma & Mike, allowing them some time just to be with each other, let it all sink in. I shot some portraits at dusk on the roof of a hacienda in Seville as the couple looked down and saw all their friends and family celebrating. I was lucky enough to enjoy a ride to the ceremony of Emma & Ajay in an Aston Martin with Goldfinger blasting out at full volume.  I have awesome memories from every wedding that will always make me smile. I’ve given my all to my couples, made some amazing friends, created some of my favourite photographs and appreciated every kind word my couples and wedding guests have bestowed upon me.  I am so grateful to every couple that has invited me to be a part of their wedding, trusted me to tell their story, given me the freedom to do what I do and laughed with me when I have been over excited about a backdrop or photo I have taken.  I still have to pinch myself that I get to capture photographs for a living  and I have to say I bloody love my job.

2016 you were all sorts of awesome. Now come on 2017 lets have some fun.

Once the dress is on and the last details are added, there is this moment of calm.

Helen’s room had been a hive of activity that morning. Her bridesmaids had been in and out the room, helping, one of their best friends who was officiating the ceremony popped in to run through their ceremony and Helen’s mum dropped by to watch Helen get into her dress. Champagne was drunk and then it was time to add the final touches to Helen’s outfit. As she put on her shoes and stood up to smooth out her dress, the room fell quiet and was filled with a sense of calm.

When I look back at this moment, I can remember all of Helen’s nerves falling away, her body relaxing, knowing that all the planning had come together and in a few moments she would get to see her boy.

I love this moment during bridal prep.

I’ve just got back from a lovely wedding in Spain (my second adventure in destination wedding photography) and sent these photos to the Helen and Stephen.

Take these two, a little village in Spain, a beautiful villa with a resident cat and a field full of wind turbines and we end up with these sneak peeks.

The adventure that started with no sleep, stupidly early flights was followed by long windy roads with crazy drivers and tiny streets that even the tiniest of cars couldn’t fit down. The weather included extreme heat, rain, gale force winds and fog that made you feel like you were stuck in horror film.  The past weekend was a great adventure.

These two are such a great couple and we had such a laugh the day after the wedding on a little mini shoot.  There will be more photos from that shoot soon.
