I headed to their flat first to get a few shots of the girls getting ready. Mum was in the bed room ironing Becky’s dress while the girls were in front room finishing off their make up.  I love it when brides get ready at home. There is something quite special about being in the familiar space, surround by your everyday things, getting the dress out of your own wardrobe, and drinking champagne out of your favourite mug.

We hopped in a cab to Stoke Newington Town Hall where everyone was eagerly awaiting Becky’s arrival. Her dad met her outside and had the biggest smile on his fave when he saw his daughter.  It’s moments like that that make me feel very privileged to do what I do. It was a moment that no one else witnessed, but a moment that I got to capture for them both to relive.

As always, the ceremony was full of emotion and laughter and as they walked to the pub, Becky and Tony slowed down to walk with their grandparents. Arm in arm, they slowly walked to The Londesborough where they carried on their celebrations. Every now again Becky would wander over to the quiet corner of the pub and check in on her grandparents. It was amazing to watch them chat, and see her nan get excited about Becky’s ring and get up on the dance floor later in the evening.

I always make sure I get photos of grandparents at weddings. I have very few photos of myself with my grandparents and I the ones I do have I really do cherish.

An East London Warehouse Wedding, Grace & Thorn wedding flowers and coffee & donuts for dessert…I was one happy photographer.

So I first met Tessa & Harry at Chris & Claire’s wedding last year. Then, while I was shooting the guests arriving at a wedding in the Oxford country side, who walks in, but Tessa & Harry.  A few weeks later, I got the loveliest email from Tessa, asking if I was free for their wedding and if I was interested in photographing their wedding day. I jumped at the chance to photograph their wedding as these two are just really lovely people. When they told me about their plans, I knew it would be a fun, relaxed day.

They started out at Hackney Town Hall and picked an amazing east London warehouse to hold their reception. When I walked into the warehouse space, I was confronted with a wall of silver balloons which allowed them to separate out the space between the drinks and the dinner. It also allowed for a big reveal when dinner was ready, which was  such a great idea. Their dinner tables were full of beautiful succulents and personalised pencils, which was such a great touch and came in very handy when the speeches started and some of their friends decided a game of speech bingo was in order.  The speech bingo turned rowdy, people started drawing rude pictures on the tables and then they began to attack the helium balloons. So much laughter followed and it was amazing to watch everyone let their hair down and start dancing.  Fuelled by some very strong rum cocktails, everyone piled on to the dance floor.  The music was amazing and I may have busted out a few dance moves as I photographed everyone dancing the night away.

I just have to say a massive thanks to Tessa & Harry for inviting me to be a part of the their wedding.

Darren & El, a laid back and stylish city wedding. Oh my, I love these guys! The first time we met we spent more time talking about art and photography than talking about their wedding.  I love it when that happens because I know the couple feel comfortable with me and that we will have a great time at their wedding.

When it came to their wedding day, I walked into the calmest house. The girls has just got back from the hairdressers and were putting the finishing touches to their make up, so I decided to wander around the house and see if there were any good little spots for a few portraits of El when she was ready. I may have done a little happy dance when I discovered the peach wall and blue carpet, perfect for a few portraits and detail shots.

These two were full of cheeky smiles and little giggles during their ceremony and I spent the whole ceremony with a huge grin on my face. It was obvious these two were meant for each other and for the rest of the day I kept catching them giving each other encouraging smiles which was just beautiful to watch and capture. It is so easy to get swept up in the day and not get a chance to talk to each other for most of it but these two made a bee line for each other every chance they got.

I loved shooting Darren & El’s wedding. Their family and friends were nothing but supportive and there to help them celebrate and party. Once the speeches were done, shots were brought and the dance floor filled up at Tanner & Co. Their guests spent their time busting some impressive moves on the door floor in between dashes to the cheese table and bar.  When I left, Darren & El were dancing in each other arms in amongst all their friends…perfect end to a glorious day.

The next instalment in the ‘Moments’ series is again one of those moments.

I think the expectation at a wedding is that the bride will always be the one to cry, but I love it when a groom gets emotional.

Nina was running a little late for the ceremony and the excitement and anticipation in the room was palpable when she walked in. I could see Miguel’s nerves turn to happiness as she walked into the room.  They held each others hands tightly, for most of the ceremony and kept smiling through out. When it came to their vows they decided to make it really personal and wrote each other the most beautiful and heartfelt letters.  As Miguel unfolded his letter, a nervous giggle set in and as he started to read to Nina, a tear rolled down his face. Overcome with emotion, he wiped away the tears, took a moment to regain his composure and tried to carry on, but not before Nina leaned over, gave him a kiss and then grabbed his hand to offer her support.

As I took this photograph, I had tears rolling down my face.

To be a witness to such love was something special, but to be able to capture that moment and then give the couple that special memory is something else. To me THIS IS IT. This it why I do what I do.

A pink haired bride, a bearded groom, a handmade dress with a cape, the Ace Hotel and a pub reception…an awesome London wedding.

When I turned up at The Ace Hotel, the room was full of excitement, some great music and Sarah sat in the chair, being pampered. It was great to see Sarah so relaxed and excited to see family and friends, that had travelled from all over the world to be in London for her wedding.

I dont know what it was abut this wedding, but I came away knowing that the only thing that matters is the people you surround yourself with, the love and support they give you and what you give back. Being in that ceremony room with these two, there wasn’t a dry eye in the town hall. To know you have that level of support around you when the start the next adventure, is nothing short of amazing.

I felt very privelaged to be a part of Sarah and Adam’s day, to capture those little moments and capture them surrounded by their closest friends and family. This is the reason I photograph weddings, I get to give a couple a beautiful set of images that tell an amazing story.

Becky and Tony did just that and as soon as their family photos were complete, most of their guests made a beeline for the pub.  We hung back to do a few portraits and when we were on route to the pub we bumped into Becky’s grandparents. What I loved about these two is that before the wedding, they were both in the pub, having a cheeky drink, in a local pub.  Becky showed me a picture of her grandma, drinking a cocktail out of a mason jar. 

On the walk to the pub, I jumped ahead and looked back to find the two of them walking hand in hand, full of smiles. It was as I was looking back that I noticed Becky was joining them, linking arms with her granddad, giving him a helping hand but also getting to spend some time with her grandparents before the excitement of the reception begins.  

Becky’s grandparents are not from London so I love the sight of them wandering down the east end streets, surrounded by the hustle and bustle.

Once the dress is on and the last details are added, there is this moment of calm.

Helen’s room had been a hive of activity that morning. Her bridesmaids had been in and out the room, helping, one of their best friends who was officiating the ceremony popped in to run through their ceremony and Helen’s mum dropped by to watch Helen get into her dress. Champagne was drunk and then it was time to add the final touches to Helen’s outfit. As she put on her shoes and stood up to smooth out her dress, the room fell quiet and was filled with a sense of calm.

When I look back at this moment, I can remember all of Helen’s nerves falling away, her body relaxing, knowing that all the planning had come together and in a few moments she would get to see her boy.

I love this moment during bridal prep.

I’ve just got back from a lovely wedding in Spain (my second adventure in destination wedding photography) and sent these photos to the Helen and Stephen.

Take these two, a little village in Spain, a beautiful villa with a resident cat and a field full of wind turbines and we end up with these sneak peeks.

The adventure that started with no sleep, stupidly early flights was followed by long windy roads with crazy drivers and tiny streets that even the tiniest of cars couldn’t fit down. The weather included extreme heat, rain, gale force winds and fog that made you feel like you were stuck in horror film.  The past weekend was a great adventure.

These two are such a great couple and we had such a laugh the day after the wedding on a little mini shoot.  There will be more photos from that shoot soon.

So today is Jess & Jordan’s 1st wedding anniversary.

This time last year I was heading down to Worthing to photograph their wedding. As always, on the way to the wedding,  I was full or nerves and excitement, hoping the weather held out for their portraits. On the way back from their wedding, I was full of energy,  feeling very lucky that I had been a part of their day, excited by the moments I had captured and a little overwhelmed by the support they had around them.

I still need to share their full wedding with you but today I have decided to share the impossible project polaroids from their wedding day.

1 year on and these guys are a staple in my weekly life.  Not a week goes by when I don’t chat to these two.  Numerous slices of pizza have been consumed, copious amounts of coffee have been drunk, adventures have been had and there was 24 hours in Berlin (but more on that in another blog post)

Hanging out with these two, you realise anything is possible. They are creating the most amazing life together and are so in love!
